2021 IS YOUR YEAR TO LEARN, TRAIN AND BE SAFE!

Happy New Year from JLPFI! We welcome this opportunity to connect with each and every new firearms owner, initial and renewal CCW applicants. Our mission  is to continue to offer the best of professional firearms instruction in the central valley and make sure our clients understand the value of our services.

JLPFI looks forward to another year of dedicated safe and challenging training to all of you seeking to learn the basics, advance your skills and maintain the confidence of new firearm ownership and concealed carry routines. We will be offering a more diversified selection of firearms courses to include defensive shotgun and semi-auto carbine courses this year. We will continue to keep our class sizes small so that each of our clients experience the personalized training that we specialize in. Our memberships are a great way for each of you to commit to a monthly regimen of muscle memory challenges, mandatory movement and  malfunction clearance drills.

*Please remember to contact JLPFI 30-60 days prior to your CCW renewal if you need to book a course!

Jurisdictional updates:

City of Fresno: We have a new Chief of Police in Fresno. His name is Paco Balderrama. The chiefs two priorities will be community trust and community safety. Chief Balderama will support the current CCW issuance program for the city directed by Officer Roland Diaz who is the current City of Fresno CCW coordinator. Officer Diaz can be contacted at: (559) 621-6562. Current processing times for new applicants is 3-5 months.

Fresno County CCW Unit News: Good news for all Fresno County CCW applicants that the CCW unit has doubled their workload to accommodate up to 18 initial applicant interviews a day! The wait time for an interview was originally 6 months out and now is only 3 months. Please tell a friend if they are considering applying for the Fresno County CCW that there is no better time than now! They must take the 8 hour initial course first and then can apply online and set their interview date .

Merced County Sheriffs CCW unit is not currently accepting any new CCW applicants. Sheriff Warnke continues to strongly support issuing Carry Concealed Weapons (CCW) license to eligible Merced County residents. The Sheriff's Office is going through a brief transition on the CCW process. Soon you will be able to self-register, make appointments, and modify your existing CCW license online. The new process will be efficient and will reduce the number of times you will be required to appear in person. Sheriff Warnke has put all new CCW applications on pause until this new platform can be implemented sometime in February 2021. Work is underway right now to make the transition as quickly and smoothly as possible. We appreciate your patience and will keep you updated on this process. If you have a previous appointment for a new CCW application or renewal your appointment will still be honored and scheduled.

Current CCW holders that need renewal by March 1, 2021 can contact the Merced Sheriff's CCW office at (209) 385-7559 or email at MercedSheriffCCW@CountyofMerced.com to schedule an appointment.

JLPFI is now an authorized instructor for Mariposa County Sheriffs CCW unit!

Press Release Regarding New Online CCW System

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has streamlined the Concealed Carry Permit (CCW) process by allowing both new and renewal applicants to fill out an application online.

The Sheriff’s Office is now taking applications online through the Sheriff’s Office website at www.mariposacounty.org/sheriff

With the new system, permits can be applied for anytime, day or night, weekends or holidays at the comfort of your home. The goal is to help the Sheriff’s Office enhance convenience and better serve the public. To apply online, residents should click the "Concealed Weapon Permits" tab on the left side of the Sheriff’s Office homepage. A link to the new secure online application system will appear, allowing applicants to create an account and submit information for a background check.

Applicants who wish to renew an existing permit must create an online account with the new system and follow all the prompts. For assistance or more information please contact the CCW Permit Clerk at (209) 966-3615.

Crime Fighting in 2021!

California law enforcement was forced to make changes in their use of lethal force policies in January of 2020, due to the passage of AB-392. All California law enforcement agencies must now include negotiation techniques of verbal persuasion and de-escalation in the face of any life threatening perpetrator. If lethal force is used, it must be deemed beyond reasonable and that the actions of the officer were absolutely necessary after that officer exhausted all other protocols first.

We are now one year into this new statewide mandate, and Fresno county had 116 homicides and over 724 shootings in 2020.

Technology seems to be the evolving answer to how our public safety servants can do their job safely with less risk! Today police departments are using surveillance cameras, gunshot detection systems, automated license plate readers, facial recognition software, body cameras, drones, and numerous databases to prevent, respond and investigate crimes.

JLPFI backs the blue and recommends that all law abiding citizens do the same in support of public safeties continued presence. We all must do our part to stay vigilant, observe and report, connect to 911 if we must and ultimately defend ourselves or loved ones if we are forced to!

Make your appointment today with JLPFI to learn more about your personal awareness protocols, combat mindset and safe defensive measures with your lawfully owned firearms.

In the news: Firearms dealers and Range information:

Turners Outdoorsman Fresno is accepting pre-orders on all firearms with a 30% down payment requirement. Most orders on handguns can range from 4-6 months before delivery. Ammunition availability is getting stronger in 9mm only. All other calibers including .22 are still very challenging to source. Turners recommends that if you are searching for ammunition to access their website frequently. If you find it online, add it to your cart and designate it to be shipped to the Fresno store! Bill Gibbons of Halfcocked Gunsmithing reports that he has an extensive inventory of gun accessories including handgun magazines and other range essential items. Guns and ammo are hit and miss in stock, but Bill will always do his best to keep his customers coming back for more. Halfcocked Website
